The Meaning of Math to Young Learners LIMITED
Limited Capacity seats available

What caused some adults to not like Math? What causes children to struggle in this subject? For this session, we will delve deeper into this issue and attempt to bridge the gap between the perceived elusiveness of Mathematics and the its real beauty . This session aims to find out child friendly and appropriate ways into teaching Math. Because as teachers, there is a high need for us to learn new ways and unlearn the old; so we can make Math real and more meaningful.

Teaching Math in kindergarten is quite challenging. It is not as simple as counting 1 to 20. It is the way to give them a "Logical Mathematical Learning" (Piaget), that is a process of constructing mental relationship including size, number, color patterns, set and groups, and so on. Traditional Math has tended to concentrate on the abstract, rather than hands on. Young children simply are not abstract thinkers. That's why we must find ways to introduce Math at their developmental levels. To make sure of this, teachers should include certain activities in teaching. As Jerome Bruner said "Interesting activity to teach Math is hardly to forget for young children".
