The Chicken Project: Project Work in Preschool Classroom LIMITED
Limited Capacity seats available

The Chicken Project summarizes how students actively participated in a project which involves school, home, and community.  The students took care of 11 chicks. For 4 months, the students fed and watched the chicks closely until they became hens. This project allowed my students to do the following: choose and narrow down a topic, share what they know and what they want to know about a topic, predict outcomes, planning, go on a mini-tip, conduct interviews with experts, ask parents for advice, think of  possible solutions to problems, earn funds, do simple addition and subtraction, count and measure, make records of changes, learning vocabulary words, phonics and sight words, conduct surveys, do researches, make decisions, and do hands-on experiments--incubating eggs was one of them. The students were encouraged to represent their learning through drawings, paintings, models, dances, songs, and dramatic plays.  They felt valued and respected as their opinions and suggestions were heard. In this project, the students also encountered their first failure as a class; the egg incubation was not successful. Seeing them cope with this failure, analyse what might have gone wrong,  and exhibit determination to redo the experiment better in the future shows that this project has prepared them for a lifelong learning.
